Get your free book here!
Hello, hunters of new and free books. I have a treat for you, as part of the epic Leeswammes Literary Giveaway.
I’m giving away a copy of the indie lit award winner and all round cracking read Safe From the Sea.
If you like quiet intensity, beautiful prose, thought-provoking issues and all-too-human characters, then this is the book for you. I was lucky enough to get to interview the author and you can check that out here.
I have read this copy, but very respectfully – you wouldn’t know it.
My rules are very simple.
Leave me a comment with your name and some way of getting in touch. Say hi and tell me what I should read next.
That’s it. You don’t have to be a blogger.
This closes at 12 midnight GMT on February 23rd and I’ll be choosing randomly the next day. I’ll send anywhere in the world.
I’m posting this a bit early, so unfortunately I don’t have the links to everyone else’s posts – but if you head on over to the giveaway mothership then you’ll have endless chances to win books from many more generous booky people. Happy entering!
I am away this weekend, so do not fear if there is radio silence (internet silence) – I will be back on Monday.
Full disclosure. No payment was received in the making of this post. For the love of books only.

I just read The Heat of the Day about London during WWII and liked it a lot-I jsut posted on it-you might like it
LJ, you know I love free stuff, so my suggestion would be “Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters,” a short story by JD Salinger. I loved it, but I once bought it for a friend’s birthday and he called it “unreadable” asked whether I had bought it as a joke. It divides opinion, to say the least. Who knows, you might love it.
Must admit when I first saw your tweet I thought you were talking about this… we should talk!
http://goo.gl/WHyfo
Just a quick comment on the comment – I love raise the roofbeam carpenters, that’s one of my favourite stories of his. Great suggestion! Perfect Day For Bananafish is also superb, by J.D. Salinger.

Thanks for linking into Leeswammes’ Blog – I had a wonderful time reading your reviews. We have similar tastes. I don’t know many people who have read Thomas De Quincey: Confessions of an Opium Eater – I read it in college and found it amazing.
I have two very different books to recommend:
Purge by Sofi Oksanen – it is a little slow getting into but worth it. One of those good books that discusses the global while focusing on the individual level. Set in Eastonia and goes back and forth between the Russian occupation and just after independence.
The Report: A Novel by Jessica Francis Kane which is about an incident that happens in London during WWII. Again, the author takes a over-all theme and brings it down to the personal level. You can find my review here: http://pburt.wordpress.com/2011/01/22/the-report-a-novel/

The story of a young girl Haddie growing up in a small fictional town in Maryland USA during the turbulent 1960′s. What Haddie witnesses soon puts the town on edge, brings in protestors, and endangers herself. Haddie is such a strong young lady whom the reader admires as she stands for what’s right.
