In Which We Meet Jillian From Random Ramblings

You guys! I am loving all the new connections being made this week. I feel terrible that my armchair is still, in fact, not an armchair at all but a somewhat wobbly wooden chair in Starbucks which is preventing me being a full participant. I will be doing return visits as soon as my connection is set up at home and PLEASE let that be soon!

In the meantime, let me introduce you to the lovely Jillian who has more or less the prettiest blog I have ever seen. I am extremely jealous. You can find out more about Jillian at her blog, random ramblings.

1) What are you studying and where do you hope it will take you?

I don’t want to say anything specific as I am very open with where life should take me, but it is definitely headed to a medical-related profession. I’ll take a stab at it and say that I most likely would end up as a speech pathologist, specifically dealing with people with disabilities. Perhaps with kids!

2) Where do you live – and what are the best and worst things about your city?

I live in the Bay Area of San Francisco. The best thing about my city is its diversity! You can find any race, culture, gender orientation here, and everyone seems to accept and get along well. I also love the weather – never blazing hot, never freezing cold! I also like that it’s a mixture of city and nature – just the perfect combination. Worst thing would be the traffic. It’s not like Los Angeles’ but it’s still pretty bad!

3) What was your favourite book:

- when you were younger? my favorite were Babysitter’s Club series, Sweet Valley series, Animorphs, and Goosebumps!
- in your teens? I was gearing a lot towards the Fantasy genre – Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Eragon, etc.
- now? Currently, I read everything. From YA to the Classics to Chick Lit.

4) Are you a hoarder, a swapper, a library fiend, or a spartan with pristine shelves?

- I am most definitely not a hoarder. I do not buy books as often as I’d like, as I tend to be more of a library fiend. However, I also like collecting novels that I have already read and fallen in love with. So I guess I’m a bit of a collector, without being obsessive ;) But how I wish I had a whole wall just full of bookshelves!

5) What would you read to be:

- comforted – the Harry Potter series and The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak
- challenged – The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien
- scared – The Shining by Stephen King
- exhilarated – Probably a good medical thriller.
- bored – Probably books like Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. No offense!

6) What’s the best book you’ve read this year, and why?

- So far, Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton.

7) Which authors, living or dead, would you most like to meet?

- Living – J.K. Rowling
-Dead – J.R.R. Tolkien and Jane Austen

8) If you had one hand in your pocket, what would the other one be doing?

- If not reading, probably texting.

9) What would you sing at karaoke?

Haha. Hit Me With Your Best Shot by Pat Benatar. I am not sure why.

10) The desert island disks question, with a twist: you are stranded on a desert island. You are allowed eight books (excluding Shakespeare and the Bible) one cd, and one luxury item. What are you taking?

- Wow. Great question! Haha. Eight books? I’m going to cheat and bring all 7 books in the Harry Potter series, and Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte.
For music, maybe Jason Mraz’ Live and Acoustic CD. And one luxury item?? My laptop! Does that count?

I say, bring on the Pat Benetar, Jillian, and after you are done, I will Love Is a Battlefield right back at you. WE ARE YOUNG! NO-ONE CAN TELL US WE’RE WRONG! I had better stop this before I get thrown out of starbucks. See you tomorrow!

  1. Great interview. Jillian is new to me too. It’s amazing how many book bloggers there are that I’ve just not come across at all! Isn’t Armchair BEA a great way to meet some of these people?

San Francisco is a place I’d love to visit. Who knows, maybe one day!

  2. The desert island question never gets boring! I would probably take the 7 HPs as well. Lots of people go for the fattest book around to “last longer”, but it has to be the ones you wouldn’t mind reading over and over.

Jurassic park? Interesting! Is it better than the movie?

  3. That’s pretty much why I haven’t read Eat, Pray, Love. :) Jurassic Park is one of my favorites – it still scares me silly. I think for the desert island question I’d probably cheat and bring huge complete works (although how I’d carry them I’d never know).

    Great questions and answers!

  4. That is a great karaoke song. And yay for Jane Eyre! Great interview!

  5. Awesome interview! I have no idea what BEA is but I’m about to do some solid surfing and figure it all out. Love the desert island question as well, I’ll have to put some thought into that as my ‘top ten’ and ‘top five’ lists change all the time; a lot like the fellow in High Fidelity… so definately some Nick Hornby lol
